Happy Monday! I'm so excited to kick of a new blog series today and share some peeks into my weddings of 2017. The 3rd Monday of each month I'll share a new wedding!
I was going to wait to share this wedding until later, but it was published on Snippet and Ink earlier this month. And it's one of my favorites!
Megan first contacted me in January 2016. I was still based in Iowa but at that time I knew we were moving to Nebraska so I let her know that I would be willing to travel but I wouldn't be based in Iowa by her wedding date. She decided she wanted someone local, but then later in the year she reached back out and we started working on partial planning and design together!
Megan and Chris chose to get married on Megan's parents property. It used to be a full working farm owned by her grandparents that they lovingly named Two Horse Farm, but now her parents live on the property and only have a few animals and no farmland. The property has been in her family for decades and her parents also had their wedding reception there! It was so special and I love the legacy that they're creating.
They chose July 1st as their wedding date and the weather was perfect! It was mid to high seventies with lots of sun and a nice cool breeze. They chose to have their ceremony in a clearing in the woods about a 1/4th of a mile from the house and tent site. Megan's dad created an arbor out of trees in the area and built benches for the guests to sit on. The ceremony site was shaded by trees and was so beautiful and intimate.
The property was large, so the family rented golf carts for guests to ride around on. Guests could also walk back from the ceremony to the reception site and pick up cocktails on the way. Cocktail hour took place in the garden around the house. Megan's dad made a bar for the site and they provided yard games and lawn furniture for guests to enjoy until the reception began. Megan had a custom watercolor map created of the property so guests could wander around during cocktail hour and the reception as well. They had two horses and a pony for guests to enjoy as well.
The reception took place under a gorgeous sail cloth tent. (They're my favorite and if you're getting married outside, they're worth the extra investment!) There were so many details-gorgeous place cards with wax seals, lavender napkins, and bright summer florals. We chose to mix farmhouse tables (handmade by Megan's dad from trees on the property!) and rounds. On the farmhouse tables we ran chiffon down the center as a runner and topped it with loose greenery and candlesticks. Round tables had linens, florals, and votives.
One of my favorite parts of the reception was Megan and Chris' choreographed first dance. They started out slow and halfway through switched songs and started the choreographed section. Because the reception took place so close to the 4th of July, their neighbors were shooting off fireworks, which was the perfect ending to the night!
This wedding was one of the most special I've ever been able to be a part of. When I talk about building a legacy and telling a love story, I think Megan and Chris did just that. The day was so special and they incorporated so many special touches, traditions, and family history. And it was absolutely gorgeous and cohesive from start to finish.
