Boss Lady Beginnings: What I learned from taking a blogging vacation

Happy Monday Boss Ladies!

So I know I’ve been missing in action for a few weeks and have missed my weekly blog schedule.  So I’m not going to make excuses, I was busy and I just didn’t make time for my blog.  But guess what boss ladies, sometimes that’s okay! At times like these, I love to read my favorite Emily Ley quote.  Hold yourself to a standard of Grace, not perfection.

I spent more time with my husband, my family, and on myself the last few weeks. I feel like I’ve been going non-stop since before my launch back in April.  I allowed myself to relax without feeling guilty because if I didn’t, I would have been burnt out.  I love wedding planning and building this business, but I want to alway love it.

And ladies, yes I know it’s so important to focus on your business and work hard to create a successful company, but sometimes you need to make time for other things.  I love my business, weddings, and all things creative, but it can’t be my only focus in life.

Maybe I won’t blog everyday and I might miss a post every so often, but I’m ready to add my blog to my focus list.  It’s important to my business and I’ve learned a lot from taking my little vacation.  So here’s why I need to start blogging more and what my plan of attack is.

Missing three weeks of blogging did drop my website traffic and I know as a new business, traffic levels are so important.   Truth: writing a blog is not my favorite thing to do.  I worry about creating content that is both helpful and unique to my followers and brides.  I worry that I ramble or people don’t read my posts. But blogging is so important to drive people to your website and create brand recognition.

I struggle with creating images for my blog and I know that the blogs that I personally read, I love seeing images.  I am not a photographer and I feel like as you’re reading my posts you’re probably going to get tired of styled images of my desk (see below haha).  I’m excited thought because I’m taking a class from Megan Weaver on photography for blogging this week so hopefully that will help!

I’m planning to sit down and write out and schedule as many posts ahead of time as possible. (I love these free downloads from Emily Ley) I also want to have my Instagram, Facebook, and other social media posts ready to go before my blog goes live.  Otherwise I’m running around like crazy the morning of the blog post making sure everything is ready to post.  I want to be more organized when it comes to blogging and streamline everything.

I hope that getting on a schedule helps!  If anyone wants to be my accountability partner on this, I’d love to talk! If you’re struggling with consistent blogging or if you have tips and tricks I’d love to connect!  Send me an email or leave me a comment!
